Types of competitors in the market. There are three main types of competitors. The first type is direct competitors. These are companies that offer products similar or very close to what you make. For example, food delivery services such as Yandex, Wolt, and Glovo. Indirect competitors are the second type. These are companies that offer alternative solutions or products that can meet the same customer needs. For example, indirect competitors for a startup offering a food delivery mobile app could be restaurants, ready-made meals in supermarkets, or even cooking at home.

The third type of competitors is implicit competitors. These are companies or brands that do not offer the same product or service but compete for customers' resources, attention, and time. For example, for a startup offering video games, implicit competitors could be social networks or other forms of online entertainment that can attract the attention and time of potential customers. How do you identify competitors in the market? Competitor analysis shows who sells what product or service to whom and at what price. The main goal is to collect data on the state of the market, the specifics of the niche, competitors, and their strengths and weaknesses. To identify competitors in the market, you can use the following methods and tools.

The first, of course, is market research. The second is online research. Look for information about companies operating in your industry using search engines, social networks, and specialized platforms. Study their websites, social media, blogs, and customer reviews. In short, everything that leaves a digital footprint. The third is market share analysis. Study reports and data on the market share of companies in your industry. Find out which companies are the leaders and hold a large share of the market. The fourth is customer analysis. Pay attention to the customer base and target audience of your competitors.

Find out what strategies they use to attract and, most importantly, to retain customers. Remember that competitors may differ depending on the industry and geographic area, so it is recommended to monitor the market regularly and analyze your competitors in order to position your business effectively.
